Hello, Fellow Find A Gravers:
My thanks to everyone who have posted for my family and the families of others. My ancestry includes Watson, Siegert, Lampkin, Smith (Schmitt), Winstead, & Kasteleiner primarily in southern Illinois, western Kentucky, and southern Indiana.
I live in Salt Lake City UT, a few blocks from Mount Olivet Cemetery, #77346. For the last few weeks I have been trying to shorten the list of outstanding picture requests. I am getting acquainted with the plot number and grave number configurations. Every effort to fulfill a photograph unfurls into a trip down a rabbit hole. Without access to a plot-level map, I resort to traversing the rows and columns of grave markers to locate the plot in question. Sometimes, there is no grave marker; however, to confirm the omission, I rely on neighboring grave markers to rebuild a plot matrix. Occasionally, neighboring graves have no plot information in Find A Grave, and I must widen my search, during which I find a marker not yet recorded.
My goal is to capture a latitude & longitude coordinate for every plot with Mount Olivet. This will allow "virtual visitors" to locate the graves of their loved-ones using a mapping tool akin to Google Earth. In addition to the GPS coordinates I can upload through the Find A Grave smartphone app, I use a Garmin 60CSx GPS not only for locating graves, but also for documenting their precise locations.
If I submit a suggested edit to correct/supply the latitude & longitude on one of your memorials, please interpret it as an act of kindness and an offer of support towards your the effort.
If you are kin, let me know; if you are a rich, dead uncle from Nigeria, definitely let me know.
Thanks...Jeff
