James is married to Tavrie C. Brooks and they have two children, James Roy Brooks and Kalie B. Brooks. James is involved in Christian ministry, serving as a Bible Study teacher at Houston's Second Baptist Church. He holds degrees in Bible, Theology, and a doctorate in expository preaching.
