I have been involved in genealogy since 1975 when my mother died. She was very interested in genealogy but was unable to trace the 'French' surname back any further than Thomas French who was born in 1839. I have since traced it back to Edward French who was born 1595 in England. Recently I have been working on the First Families of Smithfield, Maine which was incoporated on Feb. 29th 1840 as I am related to 7 of the original families.
