Bio

My partnership with this website has come about from doing research for the writing of a book about my Mother's family ancestry. It is a "work in progress" for sure.

My Father's Ancestry is fairly complete, having been thoroughly documented in several publications, so my concentration is with the Jolibois, dit Jolibois (Joliboix) surname, it's origin, and American roots in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana.

My Mother, and my maternal Grandmother, were acutely aware of their heritage, and I was very lucky to have been exposed to their stories, historical memories, heirlooms, etc.

Fortunately, at an early age (15 to be exact), I was appreciative of their knowledge. I amateurishly documented the ancestral memories shared with me. Even though my early documentation was was not sophisticated, I documented it, nonetheless.

By chance (luck, I suppose), I was very fortunate to have located and acquired many items from the estate of my Maternal Great Grandmother. The items were crated upon the death of my Great-Grandmother in 1936, and stored high in the rafters of an old barn in central Louisiana. These were gifted to me in 2005.

I'm still sorting through the many items, including looise photographs, photograph albums, jewelry, personal items, papers, other ephemera, furniture, etc.

As I sort through the many items, I have discovered many of my Mother and Grandmother's forgotten or partially unknown memories of their distant ancestry. Thanks to my Great Grandmother's documentation, I have traced my maternal ancestry through ten generations, to the region near Dijon, France, areas of Spain & Germany. I have made contact with a distant relative there, Cristoph dit Jolibois, who has validated several of the stories transferred through my Great Grandmother's writings, and my Grandmother's stories/memories about her Father, my Great Grandfather; Prospiere dit Joliboix.

This legacy has been blessed to me, and will be a gift to my neices.

It is my hope, that they will keep the record, and pass on to their descendants.
