I was born on August 25, 1939 in Monroe, Utah. Shortly after I was born my parents divorced and my Mother and I went to live with my grandparents a block away. When I was four years old I was diagnosed as having rheumatic fever. In my early childhood I was sick a lot and missed a lot of school. One early memory I have is my grandfather telling a bedtime story about his Mother Christina Wicklund Sorenson coming across the plans with The Willie Handcart Company and this was continued night after night. My Grandmother talked about her father Cyrus Winget , her Mother Adelia Squire and her Grandmother Catherine Hulet.
When I was ten years old my Mother and I moved to Ogden. Four years latter we moved to southern California. My Mother suffered from health problems but managed to keep working until a year before her death in 1963. The last six months she returned to Monroe to live with her parents while she was suffering from heart failure.
In high school I enrolled in printing classes which became my occupation field from 1967 until my retirement. I stared working on offset presses. In 1975 I started working for a company that latter merged into Graphic technology Inc. which specialized in grocery price books and shelf tags. I worked in bindery, press and camera. In 1991 I became A laser printer operator running shelf tags in the last years. Bad luck hit the company in 2003 because of the loss of the Kroger contract the Los Angeles plant had to close. I decided to retire a little earlier than planed and move to St. George.
My interests have been hiking, bicycling, walking and squire dancing, I gave up bicycling in 1994 because of one accident too many. I was president of Los Angeles Council of American Youth Hostels for two years. Served as big brother for eight years. Since moving to St. George three years ago I have been involved in senior citizens and Institute for Continued Learning in addition to SUP.
