Bio

I've lived in Forest Hills Gardens my whole life. I'm constantly doing research on its rich history. Not only do I enjoy digging up facts (no pun intended) but I also wish to impart the past to future generations. History explains so much of what goes on during our current lives.

I come from a long line of Cuddebacks. My ancestors on my father's side are of French Huguenot descent. We are even affiliated with Cuddebackville, New York. My father's name was Robert. He was the son of Wilfred Cuddeback, who owned an ice delivery company, and the Sterling Garage located in New York City's East 81st Street, I think.

My Mom's maiden name was Dolores Lorraine Lauchner. I'm not to sure this is the correct spelling of her last name. Naturally, as with researching most maternal lineage, I have no idea about her ancestors. All I know is she was born in Schenectady, NY in 1930 to Andrew and Mary Lauchner. She went to the University of Rochester and graduated in 1950, 51?

I would welcome any information regarding Forest Hills Gardens, especially the history of the flagpole in Greenway Terrace. I also would be grateful to learn the name of my grandfather's ice business.
