When I first began diving into my family history, there were a number of family and friends who stepped up and helped me with my research. I couldn't have done it without them, but it was also sort of hard to pay them back. So, I started paying it forward -- helping others with their own research.

In some cases that literally meant helping people with research on their particular family. More broadly, however, that meant finding old family photos at antique stores, antique fairs and estate or garage sales -- then researching the people in those photos and either posting them on FindAGrave or reuniting the photos with people on Ancestry.com. Same thing with old family Bibles. In fact, to date, I've helped reunite more than 200 Bibles (most from the 1800s) with descendants of the Bibles' original owners. Success like that provides a rush that's hard to describe.
