Bio

I have been working on the Tozier/Tozer connection for several years. I live in California and am now retired, which gives me more time for my research efforts. I have found that the names Tozier and Tozer are one and the same and have often been used in records interchangeably. The Tozier/Tozer names have also been spelled Towser, Taser, and many other variations of the original spellings. My grandfather and his family are listed under the last name of Towser in the 1860 Census.

My grandfather, David Lee Tozier, was born in New Jersey in 1856 and was one of only two surviving children of my great grandfather, John Howard Tozer, Sr.

John Howard Tozer,Sr. was a farmer in New Jersey who disappeared during the Civil War. My great uncle, John Howard Tozer, Jr. and my grandfather were seperated after that. My grandfather eventually became a sailor and ended up settling in California. He had been going by the last name of Tozier since the 1900 census.

My family never knew what happened to my great uncle John Howard Tozer, Jr. until after my father and his two sisters passed away. I finally made the connection with Menard County, Illinois. I discovered that my great uncle John Howard Tozer Jr. followed a relative of his, David Tozer, from the Cape May, New Jersey area, to Menard County, Illinois. David Tozer had settled there as a farmer in the 1840's. Both had gone mostly by the name of Tozer, but also are listed occasionally under the name Tozier. That discovery lead to contact with Tozer relatives in New Jersey, Illinois, and California. I am trying to make the connection from New Jersey to the Toziers/Tozers in the New England area, and would appreciate hearing from any of the Tozier/Tozer relatives as well as other related families.

On my mother's side I am also looking into the Andersons and Samuelsons from Sweden, and the Booths and Darnleys from England, as well as related families.
