Damascus Pioneer Cemetery
Clackamas County, Oregon
19428 SE Chitwood Road
Clackamas, OR 97015

Lat: 45°24'52"N, Lon: 122°27'37"W
T2S R3E Sec 08A

Contributed by Barbara Ledbury, Mar 03, 2002 [[email protected]}. Total records = 1,175.

Damascus Cemetery is located .4 of a mile SW of the Damascus/Boring fire station on Highway 212.

The cemetery started prior to 1855. Land was officially deeded on Apr 26, 1876, for a public burial ground by James Thompson Chitwood and Margaret Chitwood. On Dec 16, 1895, the Damascus Cemetery Association of Damascus, Oregon, was formed.

On May 16, 2000, the assumed business name of Damascus Pioneer Cemetery was registered with the Oregon Secretary of State.

Researched and organized May-Dec 1999 by Ilene Rounsefell & Barbara Ledbury, Secretary & Board member with some updates to March 2002 using tombstone inscriptions and sexton records.

Several of the listings have no death date listed or no dates listed at all. Their names were on the stone with their spouse or other person choosing to share the marker with them and apparently are still living. For these the comments of no date or no dates have been placed after their given name. It also is possible that at the time of burial the survivors forgot to engrave the marker, or they could have moved and been buried elsewhere.

If anyone has information or corrections, I would like to hear from you.
