Steve has been interested in geanealogy for several years, Kathy enjoys visiting ancestrial homesteads. We became interested in Union County cemeteries a few years ago when we volenteered to install signs at most of the rural cemeteries in County. It was a joint effort of the Union County Genealogical Society and the Union County Engineer's Office. Durring this project we came across the Claypool Cemetery south of Thayer, IA. It was completely overgrown with brush and weeds and several of the stones were on the ground. Over the past five years, with the help of family and others, the brush has been removed and the stones reset. We plan continue to make improvements both here and to some of the other neglected cemeteries of the county.
