Patient Dies As Doctor Is Paying Visit
John H. McGonegal, 78, of North Syracuse, Is Heart Victim
Stricken with heart disease last night while being visited by his physician, John H. McGonegal, 78, of North Syracuse, died despite valiant effort on the part of Dr. E. S. Sampson of North Syracuse to save his life.
Dr. Sampson had stopped at the McGonegal home on one of his occasional visits to attend the aged man. Mr. McGonegal had apparently been in good health all day. He had even risked the exertion caused by working in his garden in the morning. When his physician arrived, the man was in his bedroom reading.
When summoned to dinner, Mr. McGonegal left his room and started for the dining room. In the hallway he collapsed. Dr. Sampson began respiratory treatment, but death occurred in a few moments. Coroner Winnie was notified and directed the body be released to L. D. Strobeck, North Syracuse undertaker.
Mr. McGonegal was a native of Baldwinsville and lived there all his life until his retirement from his trade as a harness maker. Three years ago, he and his wife moved to North Syracuse to live with his daughter, Mrs. Frank Stickle, 106 Wells Avenue. Mrs. McGonegal died Jan. 13.
Surviving is another daughter, Mrs. J. E. Robinson of Napanee, Ont. Mr. McGonegal was a charter member of Mohican Lodge, I.O.O.F., of Baldwinsville. The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon from the Stickle home. Burial will be at North Syracuse with Odd fellow services at the grave.
