Samuel Francis and Mary Stretch were married 21 June 1849 at the Francis residence in Eagle Twp, Ross Co., Ohio (which later became part of Vinton County). They traveled westward in 1853 and settled in Illinois - Shelby Co. then Stark Co in 1865. The family then relocated to Atchison Co., Missouri about 1869 where Samuel was a successful farmer. After Mary's death he married Jane Graves (nee Jordan) 19 June 1897 in Nodaway County, and the couple lived in Burlington Junction 1900. Samuel's will was written 10 July 1906 and probated 11 February 1907. In it, he left bequests to his 3 living children Milton Francis, Drusilla Scott and Jane Wilson as well as his deceased son William's children. His niece Belle Smith received money and his wife Jane was to be paid a sufficient allowance for her support.
