Durango resident Kathleen Joyce Lytle Dulac died after an extended illness battling multiple organ failure Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, in Durango. She was 65.
Known as "Kathy," she was born to Edward John and Ruth Loraine (French) Lendrum on March 10, 1947, in Oil City, Pa. She grew up in Oil City and attended schools there. She later lived in Florida and California.
As a certified nursing assistant, Mrs. Dulac worked with handicapped children in California.
She had lived in Durango for more than 30 years.
She met her husband John Alphonso "J.J." Dulac Jr., in Chula Vista Calif. The couple married there in 1991 and were together 17 years before divorcing. They got back together shortly thereafter, renewing their vows in November 2010 at Mercy Regional Medical Center.
The Dulacs owned a security company, Security Booting, in Durango. Ms. Dulac also worked as a bartender at the Durango Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4031 and was an active member of the VFW and The American Legion Post 28 ladies auxiliaries. Ms. Dulac was also an active member of the Calvary Chapel of Durango.
"Kathy lived life to the fullest," her friends said, "having been a (American bulldog) breeder and kennel owner in Florida."
Ms. Dulac enjoyed travel, dancing, riding motorcycles, playing bingo, going to casinos and gaming – and was always very lucky, her friends said. She enjoyed spending time with her dog, Jada. She formed close friendships with Donna Hardin-Byers and Fluffy Jackson, who helped take care of her as her illness progressed.
Ms. Dulac was preceded in death by her husband of 19 years, J.J. Dulac Jr.
She is survived by her brothers Bob Lendrum and John Lendrum, both of Pennsylvania; one aunt; one nephew; and extended family members.
Cremation will occur. A service will be held at a later date.
The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary has established a memorial fund in her name to support the American Cancer Society and liver research. Contributions may be made to the The American Legion Post 28 Ladies Auxiliary and sent to the post, 878 East Second Ave., Durango, CO 81301.
