Daniel remained single. He was a blacksmith and cattle rancher, very thrifty and saving. He owned many acres of land, mostly in Nockamixon Township, which he bought as farms were abandoned, due to the closing of the Delaware Canal and to other changes of the time. He used a great deal of the land for grazing the cattle. He sold the State of Pennsylvania several hundred acres for a Game Preserve and Game Refuge, including what has become Lake Warren.
