She is survived by her sister, Harvilee Phillips Harbarger (Jack); nieces and nephews, Claude Harbarger (Karis) of Jackson, MS, Tim Harbarger (Carrie) of Destin, FL, Mark Harbarger, Frank Harbarger, Julie Harbarger Stephens (Harold), and David Harbarger (Amy) all of Huntsville, Mary Lee Thurman of Nashville, TN, David Phillips of Huntsville, Marshall Phillips of Auburn, and Marian Phillips Mancini of Ross, CA; 21 great-nephews and nieces; and two great-great nephews and nieces. She was lovingly known as "Mammy" to her family.
Marian was a native Huntsvillian where she was the oldest continuous member of First Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School for 63 years. She was also the last surviving member of Huntsville High School's Class of 1932. She loved Huntsville and spent all of her 98 years serving others. Marian was active in the community and served with many organizations including the past-president of Business and Professionals Women's Club (BPW). She was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking her famous macaroni & cheese casserole and signature pound cakes. Many have tried to duplicate her recipes, though none have been successful.
She was employed at various companies throughout her career in Huntsville including Thiokol Chemical Corp., Chrysler Corp and retired at age 81 as a documentation technician from the Army Missile Command.
Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Seanor officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Laughlin Service Funeral Home is assisting the family. (www.laughlinservice.com)
