Jeffrey Lyon Chanin , 51, of 17 Robin Street, Pearl River, NY, died on Monday, October 29, 2012.
During Hurricane Sandy, a tree fell around 6 PM and crashed through the living room of the house, trapping four members of the family. Jeff was fatally pinned by the tree and suffered serious head and leg injuries.
His two daughters and their mother were taken to Nyack Hospital for treatment.
Jeff worked as a sergeant for the New York City Police Department. He was with the NYPD for 20 years before retiring in 2010. He most recently worked in security at the Empire State Building in New York City.
Jeffrey was born on Tuesday, April 25, 1961 in Brooklyn, NY to Peter Joseph Chanin and Sada (nee Walling) Chanin. He was raised in Brooklyn and lived in Pearl River for the past 18 years.
Locally, he was a Real Estate Agent for Prudential Joyce Realty in Pearl River.
Jeffrey will be remembered as a loving husband, father, beloved son, brother and uncle as well as a dedicated community servant.
He is survived by his wife, Lise; children, Eric, Chloe, Danielle and Timothy; parents, Peter and Sada; brother, Douglas and sisters, Margaret Scholler and Chloe Murphy.
