Ephraim U. last appears in the 1880 US Federal Census, when he was enumerated as a sixty-eight year old widower. Also living in the household were three of his children - Lydia, Martha, and Elijah - as well as his seventy-two year old sister, Leticia Guffey Kirby.
Ephraim Underwood Guffey died circa 1890. He was laid to rest in the Guffey Cemetery beside of his late wife, Lucy, where his grave is marked by a rock, as indicated on the cemetery map.
