He lived on farm east of Clarksville, Iowa until age 21. He then went to Chicago to learn the jeweler's trade, settling at Armstrong, Emmett County, Iowa, a new town started when the railroad was put through west of Estherville, IA. He had a jewelry store combined with a furniture store, and was an expert repair man, in Armstrong, IA. He died from a stroke.

A.S. Loomer, Former Furniture Dealer Called
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon for Arthur Somer [Sumner] Loomer, pioneer settler of Armstrong. Mr. Loomer was born at Portage, Wis., Aug. 24, 1866 and died at his home in Armstrong Friday, Nov. 10, at the age of 77 years. Heart trouble was the cause of his passing.

He came to Armstrong when the town first started and was in the furniture business until he retired about 10 years ago.

He is survived by his wife and one son, Roy, of Chicago, Ill., who was with his father during his illness. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, November 14, 1933)
