Newton ~ James Washington Scronce, 74, died at the home of a son, O.J. Scronce, in Newton at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon and funeral services were conducted at the home of another son, J.C. Scronce, who lives two miles north of Conover, at 2 o'clock this afternoon, with Rev. Lonnie Carpenter, pastor of Trinity Evangelical and Reformed church, Conover, officiating. Burial followed in Eastview cemetery, Newton.
Mr. Scronce, twice married, is survived by two other sons, Edgar Scronce of Belmont and Stonewall Jackson Scronce of Newton; four daughters, Mrs. J.B. Ward of Belmont, Mrs. Roy Scronce of Iron Station and Misses Sarah and Lottie Scronce of Conover, Route Two; 3 step-sons, J.C. Loftin, J.A. Loftin and R.D. Loftin of Belmont; one step-daughter, Mrs. Fannie Helms of Belmont; one brother, J.O. Scronce of Iron Station; and one sister, Mrs. J.B. Ewing of Newton.
He was the son of the late Jacob and Katie Carter Scronce of Lincoln county.
