Mrs. Massengill was retired from L.C. King Undergarment and was of the Christian faith. She loved talking with her friends, sewing and camping. She was also a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
She is survived by her daughter, Vera Wolfe and her husband, who was a very special son-in-law, Vonnie; Watauga; two grandchildren, Scottie Wolfe, Bluff City; Starr Nave and her husband, Craig, Watauga; six great-grandchildren, James Wolfe, Summer Wolfe, Josh Wolfe, Hayden Nave, Olivia Wolfe and Mahala Nave; and a brother, Orville Bare, Bluff City; several nieces and nephews also survive. Also left behind to cherish her memory are her special friends and family, Phyllis Plank, Martha Small, “Sister” Sue Harkleroad, Gloria Davis, Kathy Rasnick and Bobbie Massengill.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. Massengill will be conducted on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Pastor Nathan Jennings and Mr. Scott Fisher, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Scott Reynolds, Mr. Ray Don Markland, and Ms. Ruth Ann Cullop. Those attending are asked to wear red, Granny Massengill’s favorite color. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday prior to the service and at the home of her daughter, Vera Wolfe, at other times.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 3:30 PM on Thursday November 19, 2015 in the Morrell Cemetery, Watauga. Active pallbearers will be Mike Rasnick, Bailey Massengill, W.C. Rasnick, Rick Ward, Howard Morrison, Larry Morris, James Alley, James Wolfe, Josh Wolfe and Hayden Nave. Honorary pallbearers will be Craig Nave, Herbert Massengill, Jimmy Bare, Robbie Cross, Harold Massengill, Ken Woods and Wayne Wolfe. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet the family at the funeral home at 3:00 PM on Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
