William J. Creedon, prominent contractor and builder, known among business men all over the state and a member of the Elks lodge and the Knights of Columbus died in a hospital here at 10:30 p.m. Thursday following rupture of the appendix for which he had gone an operation. The body will be taken to the family home at 1200 Prospect avenue Saturday evening and services will be held by members of the Norfolk Elks lodge at 5:45 Sunday morning after which the remains will be taken to Omaha for burial. Creedon of Omaha and a sister, Mrs. E. Amoritta of Landers, Wyo.

Intended to go to France
Mr. Creedon's death came as a shock to his friends here and at Omaha. His record as a contractor and his progressive spirit and persistent work for the city had long been recognized. He had just made arrangements to wind up his business affairs in order that he might devote himself to war work in which he had become intensely interested. His application for a place with the Knights of Columbus workers in France had been filed and he had been advised that his chances of being called were excellent.

"I can't pass the required army examination because of my crippled leg," he had told friends, "so I want to do the next best thing to joining the K. C. war workers, otherwise I would enlist in the army."

Mr. Creedon had done considerable construction work in Norfolk. It It paved a number of the city's streets, constructed two buildings on the state hospital grounds, and had just seen the final touches put to a group of modern residences on South Ninth street. In Omaha he was also engaged in extensive building construction.

Was Born at Schuyler.
William Joseph Creedon was born at Schuyler, Neb., on Feb. 23, 1878. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Creedon moved to Omaha when William Creedon was an infant. He was educated at Notre Dame and at the Creighton university in Omaha. His first business exercise was in assisting his father in the contracting business and he soon became his father's partner in that work, which included the coal and material yards enterprise, which Mr. Creedon established in Norfolk only a year ago. His ability gave him a high place among supply and materialmen.

In 1902 Mr. Creedon married Miss Myrtle E. Wearne. He remained in Omaha a number of years and then decided to come to north Nebraska. He was in Neligh for a short time and about three years ago he came to Norfolk and had decided to make this city his home.

The pallbearers who will act during the services at 5:45 Sunday morning are:
W. A. Kingsley, J. A. Brown, J. C. Larkin, Frank Flynn, A. J. Gutzmer and P. H. Davis.
