William Arthur Brown was the son of John Franklin & Sarah Louella Stiefel Brown. He first married Margaret Elizabeth Frazier; and to this union was born children - Lois Alice Louella Estelle (Martin), Ardelle, Elmos Ozell, Vinie Odell (White), Willis Virgle, Unice, Ielen Virginia (Williams), Delmos, Emma Marie (Freeman), Afies Gartrell, and Emmery Otties.

After Margaret's untimely death in 1938, Brown married Gustie Roberta Hudgeons Freeman, widow of Mr. Charlie Freeman, with whom she had children - Herbert, Annie (Oney), and Ethel (Shrader).

William's marriage to Gustie brought forth more children - Jewel Inez (Freeman), Dorothy Roberta (Wooten), Linda Faye (Edmonds), Laura Lee (Robinson), and William Arthur Brown, Jr. (infant death).

Mr. Brown lived at an old house that occupied the current address of his great-granddaughter, Leah Brown LaHayne, in Flat Rock, Alabama, next door to present-day Dogwood Hills Golf Course (north side).

He was a member of the Higdon Free Holiness Church. At Brown's funeral, Rev. Will Guffey is quoted as saying, "He was one of the best. I'm not saying he was the best. I'm just saying he was one of them."
