John Howland, 62, of Erwins. Wednesday, April 2, 1952, at Corning. A native of Austinville, Pa., he was the son of Charles and Mary Freelove Howland. Mr. Howland was proprietor of a gas station at Erwins and a member of the Baptist Church of East Smithfield, Pa.; the Corning Odd Fellows Lodge; Oakridge Encampment of Odd Fellows of Elmira Heights; Queen City Canton 15 of Elmira; the Past Grands Association of Chemung County and was past district deputy grand master of Odd Fellows of Chemung County in 1936-1937. Survived by wife, Mrs. Anna M. Tilden Howland; daughters, Mrs. Pauline Van Dusen of Wilawana, Pa., and Mrs. Julia Hillman of Olean; sons, John J. and William Howland of Horseheads, Howard and Bernard Howland of Elmira and Charles Howland of Corning; sister, Mrs. Pearl Andrus of Mansfield, Pa., Mrs. Ruby Andrus of Elmira, Mrs. Ora Van Noy of Canton, Pa., Mrs. Geraldine Purhenn of Dansville, Pa., and Mrs. Albertine Shylor of Troys, Pa.; 18 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
