Amy E. Whitsel. 87. of 15 West
Market St.. Mount Union, died early
Friday morning. April 20. 1984 in the
J. C. Blair Memorial Hospital
following an extended illness.
Born March 21. 1897 in Dudley she
was a daughter of George McClellan
and Ellen Belle iWoomer) Black. She
was united in marriage to Theodore
H. Whitsel on June 7. 1922 in the
Altoona First United Methodist
Church by the Rev. S. S. Carnell.
In addition to her husband she is
survived by tour children Dr
Theodore D. Whitsel of Huntingdon
PaulE. Whitsel of Mount Union, Mrs.
Ronald (Donna J.) Hardy of Newton
Hamilton and Dr. Barry Lee Whitsel
of Chapel Hill. X. C.: 18 grandchildren:
one great - grandchild two
sisters. Mrs. Thoburn ( Margaret!
Sunderland of Newton Hamilton and
Mrs. Chester (Eleanor) Oppel of
McVeytown R. D. 1; and a brother
Ralph Black of Saxton.
Four brothers and two sisters
preceded her in death.
She was a member of the United
Presbyterian Church in Mount Union.
A graduate of Rockhill Normal
School, she was a member of the
class of 1920 of the Shippensburg
Normal School.
For many years she taught
elementary school in the Broad Top
area.
Funeral services will be conducted
at the convenience of the family from
the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home in
Mount Union, the Rev. Elaine P.
Africa officiating. Interment will be
made in the Mount Union 100F
Cemetery.
It was the request of the deceased
that flowers be omitted and that there
be no public viewing.
Those who so desire may make
memorial contributions in Mrs
Whitsel's memory to the United
Presbyterian Church in Mount Union
