Cyrus Wharton was born in Bussey, Mahaska County, Iowa on March 25,
1862, where he spent his childhood. In 1884, he came to Dakota and
homesteaded in Holden Township. He married Cora Alice Croll, who had come
to Dakota Territory with her father and brothers and sisters in October,
1884. Cora's mother died when she was young.
Cyrus and Cora were the parents of six children: Emmett, Cassie,
Vesta, Mabel, Naomi, and Clarence who married Ruby Snodgrass November
11, 1916. Ruby was born in Iowa and came to Hand county with her
parents in 1909. Ruby and Clarence were the parents of four children:
Everett, Eva, Eugene, and Erwin.
