Lizzie Otto was born the 4th of 5 children to John and Frederika (Wahl) Otto, immigrants from Prussia. With others living in the area, the family next moved to Saline County, Nebraska and it was there, on 21 Jan 1892 that Lizzie married William F. Bartels in the Zion Lutheran Church which at that time stood next to the cemetery in which they are interred. They had six children, of whom four survived to adulthood: Herman William, Elizabeth Sophie Frederika (died just before her first birthday), Otto John, Helena Emma Sophie (died at 18 months), Adolph, and Laura. Her husband died in 1905; five years later she married Henry Kleinemeier.
