"Johnstown Daily Tribune," Johnstown, PA, Monday, October 6, 1905:

Linus Adams died last Friday morning about 7 o'clock at his home near Seward, Westmoreland County, after an illness of only a few hours from a very peculiar affliction, apparently of a neuralgic nature, which began in the calf of his right leg and quickly extended to his heart. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock, interment being made in the Seward Cemetery*. Mr. Adams was fifty-eight** years old and formerly resided in this city. Besides his wife, who is a sister of Constable George W. Kels, of the Twentieth Ward, he is survived by four sons and three daughters- Jonathan, Harvey, Fred and Irwin; Mrs. John Uncapher, of the Twenty-First Ward, and Mary and Daisy at home.

(* There is no such cemetery. They may have been referring to the Wakefield Cemetery just across the border along the river in Indiana County.

**Age given in obituary is inconsistent with census records that placed him at about 50 years old.)

------------------

Alternate theory on Linus' parents. He is in the 1860 census with Amos & Catherine Barker and Samuel Adams. You suggest Samuel is the widowed father, although he was only 15 when Linus was born. Catherine is Samuel's older sister, who was 17 when Linus was born, and is who I believe is Linus' mother. Amos & Catherine moved back to his hometown in Maine in the 1870 census, leaving Linus in Pennsylvania. Both of Linus' parents names were omitted from all, of his obits, which is common when an illegitimate birth.
