I.O Savage wrote the book A History of Republic County, Kansas. "Embracing a full and complete account of all the leading events in its history, from its first settlement down to June 1, '01. Including Indian depredations and the hardships endured by the pioneer settlers." (is from the title page of that book)

I. O. Savage Drops Dead.
Just as he had returned from Mr. Rimol's funeral today (Thursday) noon I. O. Savage fell dead from heart failure or a stroke of apoplexy, in front of the Rimol home. He had helped conduct the services of the Odd Fellows at the grave, having walked both ways from the house to the cemetery, lie was waiting for a carriage to come to Scandia, when he complained of dizziness and started to fall. He was caught and laid down and seemed to expire almost instantly. This shock coming so soon after the death of another public man reminds us all of the fleeting space of life.
Mr. Savage was one of the pioneers in Republic county. He had served as County Treasurer and State Senator. He was born in Monrovia, New York, September 30, 1833. He served three years in the civil war in Co. I, 18th Michigan, being mustered out as First Lieutenant. He came to Republic county in 1870 and has lived here ever since. He had one of the finest brains of any man who ever lived here. Now he is gone. May he rest in peace.
