Sam Hilburn Broer, 73, of East Palatka, died suddenly Saturday, March 11, 2000, at Putnam Community Medical Center.
He was a native and lifelong resident of East Palatka. He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Palatka and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He had retired in 1989 as a millwright at Georgia-Pacific, having worked from 1953-1989 and also was a retired cattle rancher. He enjoyed restoring antique automobiles and won many trophies at automobile shows. He was a former member of the Azalea Region AACA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Louis Broer and Annie Bradshaw Broer and by two brothers, Louis Broer and Sidney Broer.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jewell Morris Broer of East Palatka; two sisters, Pauline Faircloth of Valdosta, Ga., and Ruth Flanders of East Palatka; nieces and nephews including William Faircloth and Ann Register, both of Valdosta, Ga., Gary Flanders of Palatka, George Flanders and Richard Morris, both of San Mateo, and Earl Fenton Morris of East Palatka; along with numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 10 a.m. at the Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka with Rev. Jessie Wooten officiating. Burial will follow in Palatka Memorial Gardens.
Flowers are gratefully accepted or memorial donations can be made to a favorite charity.
