Born in Jefferson City, Mr Avery's family moved to Ash Grove before settling in Springfield, Missouri. After graduating from Central High School he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, and was a Sergeant on the Battleship New Jersey during the Korean War. While on leave he met his future wife Katherine V Peters, and they were married at Springfield Christian Church in 1952. After the war he attended Southwest Missouri State College (now Missouri State University), before joining the Lily Tulip Cup Company where he served as a production supervisor for 32 years.
Mr. Avery was a member of the American Legion Post #676 and Mt Carmel Methodist Church, where his family has attended for five generations. He was a talented woodworker and used his skills to create beauty in several homes and churches. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and making new friends along the way, cooking outdoor barbeque, fishing and volunteering his services to help others. He was proud of his family and treasured his many friendships.
Mr. Avery died at the Ozark Methodist Manor, Marionville, Missouri after a long battle with Cancer. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, two children, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
