Screenwriter and novelist. He is best known for his panoramic "Passing Bells" trilogy about an aristocratic English family and the social changes wrought by World War I, has died. Rock died Saturday in Los Angeles of complications related to cancer. He was 76. Born in Hollywood to a show business family, the son of Vitagraph silent film star, producer and director Joe Rock, he first worked as a writer in motion pictures. After growing up in England and serving in the Navy toward the end of World War II, he worked as a page at CBS and a bit actor and film editor while drafting screenplays. He wrote The Extraordinary Seaman (screenplay / story)1969, 1961 Most Dangerous Man Alive (screenplay / story "The Steel Monster"), and in 1953 Escape from Fort Bravo (story). He was the nephew
of Murray Rock,the younger brother of Felippa Rock, the father of Kevin Rock, and uncle of Christopher Pate.
