Charles B. Stein, 82, of Springfield, MO passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2012 in Ozark Community Hospital.

Charles was born December 25, 1929 in West Plains, MO to the late John and Gladys (Bennett) Stein. On May 5, 1951 Charles was united in marriage to Patty Lois Baymiller. He was employed a number of years at his fathers Auto Dealership and later he and his wife Patty owned and operated a motel in West Plains and later a motel and other businesses in Springfield, MO.

Charles is survived by his wife, Patty Lois; a son Charles Michael; four grandchildren, Joe, Mike, Johnny and Ingred all of Sawyer, MI; one sister, Deana Gleghorn and husband Robert of West Plains, MO; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by an infant son, a sister Helen Evans and brother-in-law Joe Paul Evans.

Charles volunteered for many years at St. Johns Hospital and also volunteered at Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church where he served as a greeter.

Charles was a U.S. Army Veteran having served 2 years in the National Guard and 2 years in the U.S. Army where he was a platoon sergeant in an Infantry and Combat Engineer Basic Training Company.

Funeral Mass will be at 11:00AM, Friday, October 26, 2012 in Immaculate Conception under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors will be at 2PM Friday in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, MO. Published in the News-Leader on October 25, 2012.
