"Dr. Walter Gilbert Fremont Jr., 82, dean emeritus of the Bob Jones University School of Education, went to be with his Lord Sunday morning, January 7, 2007. During his 37-year tenure as dean of the School of Education, he was a seminal force in the inauguration and development of the Christian school movement in the United States and around the world. He was also widely known as a consultant and speaker on Christian counseling and the family and was the author of several highly successful books and educational articles.

Students remember and value him for his positive faith attitude, his concern for them and his emphasis on his "Bible Action Truths." He will be long remembered for his courageous spirit in the face of over twenty years with Lou Gehrig's disease.

He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II, earned an MS degree from the University of Wisconsin and the D.Ed. degree from Penn State University. He was a member of the founding board of the Wilds Camp and Conference Center.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gertrude Fremont; children, Gail Berger and Gil Fremont; son-in-law, Daniel R. Berger; daughter-in-law, Julie Fremont; grandchildren, Tammy and Jarret Gates, Daniel and Oriana Berger, Michelle Berger, Jessica Fremont, Heather Fremont, and Whitney Fremont; great-grandchildren, Josiah and Addison Gates; and special friend, Adeana Elvin.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Elaine Fremont.

Visitation will be held Monday evening, January 8, 2007, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the War Memorial Chapel, on the Bob Jones University Campus.

His favorite scripture passage reflects the testimony of his life. Acts 20:24 "But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God."
