“Mrs Nellie Peterson, 72, of Slaterville Springs, died Friday December 24, 1948 in Memorial Hospital.
She was member of the Slaterville Springs Methodist Church and a member and secretary of the Women’s Society of Christian Service of that church.
She is survived by her husband, Peter N Peterson; a son, Roy Peterson of Hebron, Ohio; 2 daughters, Mrs Bertha Metz and Mrs Mary Prouty of Slaterville Springs; 2 brothers, Edward Alderson, Paradise Calif., and James Alderson, Artesia, Calif., and 3 sisters, Mrs Phillis Fowler, San Pablo, Calif., Mrs George Brown, Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs Alfred Freebury, Orchard, Iowa.
Funeral services were held at 2p.m. Monday at the home, with the Rev. Miles Watkins, pastor of the Caroline Valley Federated Church officiating.
Bearers were Alva Ferguson, Betrm and Harry Crispell and Henry Crace. Burial was in Quick Cemetery, Slaterville.”

HER PARENTS:
Her father, Edward T. was born in North Yorkshire, England 14 April 1849. Her mother, Clara Peck was born to George Star Peck & Nancy E Scovel Peck 20 June1858 in Strawberry Point, Clayton Co, Iowa. Edward and Clara were married 20 March 1875 in Clayton County. Edward and Clara had four children: Nelli Permelia Alderson (Mrs P.N. Peterson) 14Jan1877–24Dec1948, Elizabeth M. Alderson (Mrs A. E. Freebury) 3Jan1879-30Dec1962; Edward P. Alderson 19May1883-13March1964; and Phillis Marie Alderson (Mrs John WB Fowler) 13June1885–13February1958.
Clara (Peck) Alderson died at age 35 on 6 April 1894. Clara was buried the next day in the Riverside Cemetery in Charles City, Iowa.
In 1895 Edward married Hattie C. Smith, probably in Floyd County, Iowa. James and Hattie remained in Iowa and added two more children to the Alderson family, a daughter, Harriet (Mrs George V. H. Brown), in 1897, and a son, James B, in 1899. Sometime between 1900 and 1910, Edward and Hattie moved with their two youngest children to Long Beach, California. Edward died 9 November1924; Hattie passed away on 31 December 1930. Both are buried in Sunnyside Cemetery in Long Beach, California.

The other members of the household is: Mary E, age 1, born in Iowa. The census also reflects Nellie has had 3 children, that only one is living.

1920 US Federal Census, enumerated 17 – 19 January 1920, reflects Peter, age 53, his mother and father were from Norway, Peter’s Occupation: Stock buyer. Nellie is 42, Occupation is none. Children listed:
Mary E., age 11, born in Iowa; Roy N., age 9, born in Iowa; Bertha L, age 6, born in Iowa; Alice J, born in Iowa. Home is Lincoln, Winnebago County, Iowa.

1925 NY State Census reflects Peter, age 58, occupation: Farmer; Nellie is 48, occupation: Housewife. The four children are: Mary L age 16, Roy N – 14, Bertha L – 12, and Alice J, age 6. Home is at #40 Buffalo Road, Caroline, Tompkins County, New York, USA

1930 Federal Census reflects Peter, age 63, and that his mother and father were from Norway. Nellie is 63. The other two members of the household are: Roy N, age 19, born in Iowa; and Betha L, age 17, born in Iowa as well. Home is at #46 Buffalo Road, Caroline, Tompkins County , New York, USA

1940 Federal Census reflects that Peter, age 73, his occupation: Farmer. Nellie, age 63, no occupation listed. Their Residence: Slaterville Springs, Caroline, Tompkins County, New York. They were living in the same residence in 1935. There are no children listed; only a handyman, whose occupation is listed as Laborer.

The town of Brooktondale and Quick Cemetery are located approximately 15 miles southeast of Ithaca, NY, off of state highway 79 (Slaterville Road). From Slaterville Road, go south on Landon Road approximately one mile to the intersection of Landon Road and Lounsbery Road (County Road 113). Quick Cemetery is on the east side of this intersection. Enter the cemetery on the road. Nellie's grave is in Lot 140A, which is the new section of the cemetery, which is in the center of the cemetery.
