Deceased Name: Charles R. Denton

SAN JOSE - Charles R. Denton, 87, of San Jose died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at his home. He was born Jan. 8, 1916, in Petersburg, the son of Fred and Mary Denton. He married Verancia Oller in 1943 in St. Louis; she died in July. Mr. Denton was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was a pipefitter in Chicago and worked on the construction of the Sears Tower. He was a member of Pipefitters Welfare Fund, Local 597. Survivors: a stepson, Richard (wife, Pat) Goben of Lake Delton, Ind.; two stepdaughters, Shirley (husband, Art) Behrends of Mason City and Lavina Gay (husband, Clem) DeMatteis of Pekin; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Fred and Russell Denton, both of Petersburg, and Carl Denton of Chi-cago. Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Hurley Funeral Home, San Jose, the Rev. Allen Payne officiating. Burial: Kilbourne Cemetery.
