Milton "Nick Wayne Sherfick. "Nick" Sherfick was born June 6, 1938 on the family farm northeast of Ogallah in Trego County, KS to Walter and Neva (Morton) Sherfick. He passed away Nov. 14, 1999 in Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital at WaKeeney, KS at the age of 61 years, 5 months, 8 days.

Nick was a lifetime area resident. He attended Adair rural Trego County school, and Trego Community High School. Nick was inducted into the US Army on Oct. 18, 1956. He served his country and was honorably discharged Oct. 17, 1958.

On Feb. 20, 1960 Nick was united in marriage with Sylvia Wellbrock in Christ the King Catholic Church at WaKeeney. She survives of their home in WaKeeney.

Nick worked as a mechanic from 1973 to 1985. He then became the owner of Nick's Truck Service, which he operated from 1985 until the time of his death. Nick was a WaKeeney Speedway promoter, and played a key role in reestablishing racing in WaKeeney during the mid 1980's. Building race cars was a lifelong interest of his and he also rebuilt and restored semi tractors. Nick collected guns and a variety of musical instruments.

He was a member of the International Motor Contest Assn. of Vinton, IA and the Kansas Motor Carriers Assn. of Topeka, KS. Nick attended Ogallah Christian Church of Ogallah, KS.

Other survivors include two sons Terry and Jerry, two daughters Sherri Kuntz and Kerry Watson, nine grandchildren, two brothers Merle and Mort, three sisters Loretta Tow, Virginia Hafliger and Jane Norseen, and a sister-in-law Lois Sherfick.

He was preceded in death by a brother Marlin Sherfick.

Funeral services for Nick Sherfick were Wed. Nov. 17, 1999 in the Ogallah Christian Church at Ogallah, KS with Rev. Wayne Lofton officiating. Interment was in the WaKeeney City Cemetery, WaKeeney, KS. Schmitt Funeral Home of WaKeeney handled the arrangements. Memorials to be to Lied Transplant Center, Omaha, NE. (Gove County Advocate, Wed.
