In the death of Mrs Smiley, we have lost from our midst a useful citizen, and a good woman. She was the daughter of the late Michael Brown, and was married to Wm. Coolbaugh about the year 1840.
Mr Coolbaugh met with a terrible acciident, by being caught and mangled by machinery, some years since, which caused his death, in the noontide of life, and when the time and life was most valuable to his family. He died universally respected, and his death spread a gloom over our whole community. Subsquently, the deceased married Morris Smiley.

She has raised a family of chldren who are useful citizens. As a mother she had no superior; as a citizen among us no one can leave our midst more universally regretted. For several months she had been confined by sickness, which she bore without a murmur, and with christian fortitude; always willing to submit to the will of her Heavenly Father in whom she put her trusts. In her sickness she was constantly surrounded by a loving family, and a community of devoted friends, all trying to administer to her comfort, and relieve her pains, but in vain for her recovery. She has gone, may we strive to travel the road to her Redeemer.
