HAMPTON - Shirley Wynne Jordan, 77, was delivered into the loving arms of our Lord on Thursday, July 10, 2008.

'So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God, I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.' Isaiah 41:10.

Born on Oct. 5, 1930, in Raleigh, N.C., Shirley was the daughter of the late John and Nancy Wynne. Her brother, Don Wynne, also preceded her in death.

Shirley leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted and loving husband of 57 years, Charles R. Jordan Sr.; daughter, Cynthia Hagen and husband, Jim; son, Charles R. (Chuck) Jordan Jr. and wife, Penny; daughter, Pamela Wilson and husband, Garnett; grandchildren, Julie Daniels (Trey), Lisa Jackson (Don), Chet Jordan, Leigha Wilson; and great-grandson, Jacob Daniels. A brother, Elvin Wynne, and sister, Linda Lawhorn, also survive her.

Shirley was a 1951 graduate of Rex Hospital School of Nursing in Raleigh, N.C. She had a kind and gentle spirit and took great pleasure in nurturing others back to health.
Shirley loved the Lord, and was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Hampton, where she served as elder, deacon, and co-chair of the Women's Circle 7. She was also a lifetime member of the Woman's Club of Hampton and a member and past president of the Kecoughtan Garden Club.
Shirley's greatest joy was her family. She cherished every family gathering and especially Christmas mornings with her entire family gathered around the Christmas tree, opening gifts together. Her family will forever cherish these memories. She also loved the home where she raised her family and enjoyed feeding and watching the many birds in her yard. She also loved her flower garden and enjoyed sharing her fresh cut flowers with family and friends. Many years were spent loving and caring for family pets, and most recently her beloved golden retriever, Cassie.
