William enlisted at age 35 on 6-18-1861 into Co. F, 28TH N.C. Troops. He Mustered in as a Corporal, promoted to ordnance sergeant on 10-9-1861. Hospitalized at Wilmington N.C. about 2-15-1862 with typhoid fever and died about 2-20-1862. There is a tombstone for him in the Kirk-Apperson Cemetery one mile down Macedonia Rd. from Highway 67 on North West side, located on Old Tom Allen Place.
William was the son of Thomas and Luvitha Vest Apperson.
