The spelling for family lines would change from Näf to Naff or Naef, Neave, Neff, and Nave. Most of these variations are still found in America today.

Ulrich was a Reformed Protestant and he held a position in the church which required him to "pay strict attention to the morals of the congregation."

In 1701 he was noted as a good musician and in 1747 he was noted as a master butcher.

Ulrich and Elizabeth (Stadelmann) Neff had 11 children, the first child was christened in 1705 and the last in 1727. Three of his sons, Ulrich, Jacob and Rudolph immigrated to the United States.
