Abby Maria Boucher Atwood was the daughter of Thomas Boucher and Kezia Taylor. She was born at New Bedford, Bristol Co., Massachusetts where her father was a Whaler. A short time later, the family removed to Ledyard, Cayuga Co., New York where Abby's father became a Farmer. Abby married Parker L. Atwood ca. 1849, presumably at Ledyard where they were censused in the household of Abby's father in 1850. Parker was listed as a Farmer. Abby and Parker soon removed to Illinois, the birthplace of their first three children, and remained through the mid-1850s. Abby and Parker then returned to Venice, Cayuga Co., New York where they were censused in 1860. Tragedy struck the family in November 1862 when their first four children died from diphtheria over a period of several weeks. The couple went on to have four more children before Parker died in 1874. The children of Abby and Parker were Thomas, Charles P., Ellen L., William S., Harriet C., Mary Prudence, A. Gail, and John H. Atwood.

Abby married (2nd) Thomas Hale, a Carpenter, before 1880. Abby and Thomas resided at Auburn, Cayuga Co., New York where she ran boarding houses at 11 William Street and later at 30 Lincoln Street until her husband's death on 14 January 1892. Abby worked as a Twine Operator in the late 1890s. She died in 1907.

"Funeral of Mrs. Hale. The funeral of the late Mrs. Abbe Maria Hale was held Friday from the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. D. Parcells, No. 3 Chapel avenue. Services were conducted at the house by Rev. W. H. Hubbard, D. D., of the First Presbyterian church. A. L. Hemingway of the Central church choir sang Lead Kindly Light. At the conclusion of the services here the funeral party went to King Ferry via the 11:30 Lehigh Valley train, the interment being made in that village. Mrs. Hale was 76 years of age and had been a resident of Auburn during the past 27 years. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Kezie Boucher of Poplar Ridge, who were among the pioneer settlers of the southern end of Cayuga county. She was a woman of many lovable qualities which endeared her to a large circle of friends. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Cedric Rappleye of Brooklyn, two sons, A. G. Atwood of New Haven, and J. H. Atwood of Brooklyn, and two daughters, Mrs. J. D. Parsells and Mrs. Mary Mosher, both of this city."
