Mrs. Sarah Couch Almost Reached the Century Mark Died Last Saturday

She was a native of Sandown, but had resided in Chester, Hampstead and Derry. widow of Jacob Couch, of Chester, died at home in the eastern part of town on the Calvin Taylor place, last Saturday having almost attaining her one hundredth birthday.

Mrs. Couch's maiden name was Heath. She lived in Sandown, her native place, till she married Mr. Couch, then she went to Chester to reside. After the death of her husband, many years ago, she went to East Hampstead and lived with her sister, Hannah Heath. They made home together several years until the infirmities of age compelled them to make a change, and they went to the home of their niece, Mrs. O.H. Smith and Mr. Heath. Everything was done to make their lives happy and enjoyable, and they seemed to be truly in the element of happiness, until about a year ago, when death claimed her younger sister.

Since that time Mrs. Couch has been in her usual health and seemed as strong as usual, until a short time before the end came. She showed signs of illness, and the family physician was called. He administered such assistance he could render, but stated that the woman was apparently nearing the end, and so it proved for a few hours later she was dead.

Mrs. Couch was step-grandmother of Sarah H. Couch of the Derry post office……….
