Served with Company F, 39th Illinois Infantry (Union Side). Residence at the time of his enlistment on 2 Feb 1864 was Avon, IL, he mustered in on 29 Feb 1864.
According to the U.S. Civil War Soldier Records he was indeed a POW and did not survive the war. It also claims he mustered out on 15 Jul 1864, rather then mustering out he died as a POW in Andersonville Prison on that date.
Civil War pension issued to Palmer's widow Maria on 1 Mar 1866.

According to census records he and Marina (aka Maria/Myra) surname Gordon or Young; had a son Charles Mortimer Lusk, born Jun 1849, Fremont, Lake, IL, died 7 Oct 1934 Oak Grove, Anoka, MN. He married Emma Viola Oliver on 25 Nov 1877 at Green Lake, WI. From this union were born Ida, William, Elizabeth, Emma and Sydney Lusk.

Palmer Lusk was posthumously awarded a Homestead Land Grant, on 25 November 1885, for 160 acres, in the township of Fortier, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to the heirs of Palmer Lusk. The Certificate states that the grant was awarded for the location at: The south east quarter of section 8, in township 114 North, of range 46 West, of the 5th Principal Meridian, of Minnesota. The 1913 township map of Fortier, lists Andrew Overson as the current owner of that property.
