FULL MILITARY FUNERAL FOR PVT. DALE E. BEAN
Funeral rites for Pvt. Dale E. Bean, 19-year-old-son of Mr. and Mrs. Mack Bean of Stilwell, were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Roberts Funeral Home chapel, with Rev. James Smith, pastor of the Westville First Baptist church, and former chaplain, officiating. Westville members of Veterans of Foreign Wars and their firing squad were in charge and acted as pall bearers. Burial was in New Hope cemetery. Private Bean enlisted in the army at Portland, Oregon the 10th of December, 1943, where his family was living at the time. He trained at Camp Roberts, Calif., before his transfer to Fort Benning, Ga., with the 504th paratroop Infantry. He was sent overseas in September 1944, and it was soon after returning from a flight that he and others were pressed into service at the Battle of the Bulge on December 20, 1944 from which he failed to return. His body was among the first to be returned home, arriving in New York, October 26. He was born August 21, 1925, attended Stilwell schools, and was active in football and all other athletic events. Other than his parents, he is survived by three brothers James Mack, jr., and Cullen of the home, and two sisters, Mrs. Carl Pettigrew and Mrs. Walter Tompkins, all of Stilwell.
