Elaine Anderson Mansius, 87, passed away peacefully Friday, December 23, 2011, in Kennewick, Washington. She was born to Eugene Clair and Mildred Clark Anderson on November 21, 1924, in Preston, Idaho.

Elaine married Charles Arthur Mansius on June 3, 1946, the same day she graduated from the University of Idaho with a teaching degree.

She moved to Richland with her family in 1951 when Charlie came to work at Hanford as an engineer. They moved to Kennewick in 1956. Charlie and Elaine celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year.

Elaine was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, and devoted her life to helping those around her. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully throughout her life.

She lovingly raised and served her family and is survived by her husband, Charlie of Kennewick; a brother, Keith Anderson of Sun Valley, Idaho; three children, Charlene Jay Mueller of Richland, David Sharla Mansius of Vancouver, Washington, and Mark Lois Mansius of West Columbia, Texas. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Gloria Anderson and LaRue Powell, and one great-grandson, Garrett Cahoon.

Elaine spent her life learning. She earned her Master of Library Science from the University of Washington. She was a librarian in the Kennewick School District, a job she truly loved.

She encouraged all of her children and grandchildren to pursue an education to better their lives and the lives of others. A series of illnesses led her to search alternative forms of healing. She loved to learn and help others find new ways to take care of their bodies in a natural manner.

She taught her posterity to love and serve the great country of their birth, the United States of America, and worked on several political campaigns and the polls during election time. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She also enjoyed gardening and preserving the produce she was blessed with, reading, spending time at her cabin in Goldendale, Washington, and vacations to Canada. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitations will be held Friday, December 30, 2011, from 3-8 p.m. at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union, Kennewick. Family will greet friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 515 South Union, Kennewick. Interment to follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.
