GRANITEVILLE — Entered into rest on Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at his residence, Mr. George A. Benson, 93, of 224 Whaley Pond Road, Graniteville. He formerly resided for 48 years at Oak Street, Gloverville. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Myrtle Deal Benson and a son, Roy Lenwood Benson.

Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Teresa B. and Cleve Rains of Graniteville, and Dianne and Dan Boyles of Ravenel; one brother, Sam Benson of Beech Island; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Benson was born in Jenkins County, Ga., to the late Samuel Sampson and Gussie Louise Stewart Benson. He was an U.S. Army Veteran of World War II having served in the Medical Corps. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the Carpenter's Union #263, Augusta, and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Post #43, Aiken. He was a member of Langley Church of God and the Men's Bible Class.

Funeral services will be on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Langley Church of God with the Revs. Benny Burton, Ritchie Enlow and James Wiley officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Cato, Joey Gullion, Chris Alverson, David Benson, Glenn Benson and Scott Ramsey. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Langley Church of God Men's Bible Class.

Friends may call at the residence of his daughter, 222 Whaley Pond Road, Graniteville or on Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Hatcher Funeral Home, U.S. Highway 1, Langley.
