John J Framton, of Co. K, enrolled Nov. 1, 1861 in Auburn by 1st Lt. S.C. Aldrich as a Private; mustered in Nov. 22, 1861 in Ft. Wayne by Lt. Stansbury at age 29. He was 5Œ 8 tall, dark complexion, dark eyes, and dark hair. Born in Beaver Co., PA, employed as a farmer, married, resident of Auburn, in DeKalb Co., IN. Transferred to Marine Service (gunboat) Sep. 25, 1862, and mustered out in St. Louis, MO, Mar. 7, 1863 with rank of Private. Notes: Son of John and Elizabeth Frampton. Honorably mentioned by Col. Reed at Shiloh where he carried the flag on Monday. Was Generalfs orderly Apr. 1862, and regimental post master June-Jul. 1862. Sick in Danville, KY Sep. 15, 1862, and detained on hospital duty there. John J. Framptonfs wife, Caroline Canfield, filed Widowfs Pension Application #844933 Mar. 10, 1906 in MI. Died Dec. 28, 1872 in Carson City, Montcalm Co., MI; buried there in Carson City Cemetery.
