~FRANCOIS POSCHET (1615 France—1657 MD).
He was born in Voyance a Cambrai, France.
He & his brother, Marteyn Poschet, did not want to be labeled as Catholic as most of France was. They were "Huguenots". "French Protestants" were inspired by the writings of John Calvin in the 1530's, & these Protestants were called Huguenots by the 1600's. Huguenots had fled France during a series of religious persecutions...if they were not Catholic, they were persecuted.

Francois & Marteyn Poschet fled from France to London, England by 1630. They attended "London's Huguenot Threadneedle Street Church". His brother married in London, England & remained there.

In 1636, Francois Poschet went to The Virginia Company of London & booked his passage to North America. He sailed to Henrico County, VA in June 1637. He became a land owner there & was elected to "The Virginia House of Burgesses".
Francois Poschet did not want his surname to sound French because it might convey that he was Catholic which he most definitely was not! So, he changed his name. He became FRANCIS POSEY in North America.

By 1640, Francis Posey had moved to neighboring Charles County, Maryland (MD). He lived in St. Mary's County, Maryland & represented St. Clements District in "The Maryland House of Burgesses from 1640-1650".
His home was built in 1650 & is still standing in 2014 & may become a "bed & breakfast" & may also be designated as a "Historical Site" by MD when the government finishes its assessment.

Francis Posey married in 1645 @ St. Mary's County, MD: "Elizabeth Foster Humphrey" (1620 England—1676 MD). She was an English woman who came to North America as an indentured servant. This is how she paid-for her passage to MD. Francis Posey paid-off her voyage debt & thus freed her from servitude, & they were married in 1645.
(2 Children from their marriage.)
