Irene Christopher, 99, of Ottawa, passed away Monday evening, October 15, 2012 at Pleasant View in Ottawa.
Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 20, at Faith Lutheran Church in Ottawa with the Rev. Peter Ward, chaplain of Pleasant View, officiating. Burial will be in Baker Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until the services.
Irene was born February 15, 1913 in Rural Newark to Alfred and Emma (Vermeland) Nelson. She married Howard O. Christopher on February 14, 1935 in Trinity Lutheran Church in Ottawa. He died on October 21, 1979. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, AARP, Sons of Norway and volunteered for more than 30 years at Pleasant View.
She is survived by three children, Maryellen (Richard) Stevenson of Ottawa, Gerald (Muriel) Christopher of Biddeford Pool, Maine and Barry (Julie) Christopher of North Aurora; five grandchildren, Keith (Jackie) Stevenson, Kurt (Diane) Stevenson, Peter, Todd and Sarah (Alex Rapp) Christopher; eight great-grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan, Ali, Jake, Hayley and Nicole Stevenson, Caroline and Allison Rapp.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard; one son, Roger in infancy; one sister, Doris Stohl and three brothers, Ivan, Alvin and Donald Nelson.
Pallbearers will be: Kurt, Keith, and Jake Stevenson, Gary Stohl, Dick Shipman, and Tom Stevenson.
Memorials may be made to Breast Cancer Research.
