Lewis was one of 14 children born to James "Jimmie" Roach and Lydia Chapman. He was also the last born. He appears in the cemetery index on file at the Kellenberger Room in New Bern, NC as well as a transcription in the book "our Family Genealogy" published in 1967. Only his birth date is known at this time. According to the cemetery index a note was made that per Mrs H.E. Barrow a niece that only a wooden marker was placed at the grave.
